Hi!
My name is Kellylee! I'm 38, a wife, mother and step-gramma!
I've been married for 14 years, and have 1 son, a
step-daughter her husband and a grandson. I currently live in Pittsburgh, PA(USA).
I also have three cats, Kiwi,
Jinx and Monster.
Kiwi is a laid-back kinda cat. She's a Himalayan...which
originally was a mix of a Persian and a Siamese cat. She is
more on the Persian side. Jinx is a Maine Coon Cat. This
breed is really a lot of fun for kids and young adults. They
do not meow...but squeak. Mine is a medium haired (half
long/half short haired) and loves to play fetch and other
little tricks. She knows how to tell time, and can loudly
inform you when it is 6 am and 6 pm...her feeding time
*LOL*. Then there is the newest addition...Monster. She's a gift from my best friends Kim and Dave. Their cat had two kittens, Bubba and Nabisco (named Nabisco after his mother Oreo). Even though I named him Nabisco, it was by everyone's vote in the family that we rename him Monster because of all the trouble he gets in, and also when he attaches he stands on his rear legs and makes a monster-look and sound.
Hobbies
and Free Time....
I'm really into crafts and reading. In my crafts, I make custom pillows, as well as Teddy Bears. Yup, Teddy Bears. That is one of my passions as well. I also crochet, needlepoint, cross stitch and can make plant hangers if the mood really hits me. I also do ceramic painting, beading and numerous other crafts.
I love reading. If there was one thing I could have on a deserted island it would be a book. Any book. I read about 4-5 small romances a week, or 2-3 bigger ones. I've read "Gone With the Wind" at least a dozen times. I can't remember a day going by the I haven't missed a day without reading something before I go to sleep. My dad told me a story of when I was younger, I actually got in trouble for reading in school! Of course it was a Harliquin and not my book report book (I had finished it in 2 days). I was actually sent home for the day! My favorite "alone" time in my memory is sitting in a park across the bay from Ford's Island on Oahu, Hawaii reading my book, eating sunflower seeds, sipping on a Shasta Root Beer. Heaven.
I also love Teddy Bears. I have about 200 of them around the house and in storage. I have favorites, but my most cherished one is this one...
This is a picture of my cat Monster hugging on my bear. This teddy has been with me for as long as I can remember and has gone through evrything from Navy boot camp to every airplane trip I have ever been on.
I am also an EMT. I'm dual certified in Virginia and Pennsylvania right now. I'm off of work for a few months, but I already miss it. There is nothing like the feeling of helping people. I thought I was doing it originally for the public, but after working as an EMT for a few years now, I know I'm doing it for the great feeling it gives my heart and soul. There are so many funny stories that come out of some of the scenes I've been on. There is just as many sad and depressing stories, and I've learned from them, but moved on. I like to remember the happy situations. I guess that's why I don't really stress out over the bad stuff. Once it's over, I've done my best, and turn the patient over to the hospital. I know what was done, was done, and there is no reason to mull over what could have been accomplished. Here is one of the things that has happened to me:
Learning a little sign language was so fun. I love being able to communicate with the deaf without looking like a big goof. I laughed my butt off at a fellow EMT trying to get a history of a deaf person - he was yelling and gesturing and looking like a clown. I busted a gut on the way to the hospital - so did the patients wife - she knew I could communicate, but the paramedic that I was working with was one of those men that know EVERYTHING, and couldn't stand the thought of a WOMAN EMT doing his job, and HIM driving. When we got to the hospital, I was signing with the man, and laughing with him, and my partner felt like a total idiot after I told him the man thought he was nuts. You would have busted a gut at the look I gave him and the snickering the couple did behind his back. It was a glorious moment in the life of a WOMAN EMT.
Anther one is:
There was one old church lady that wanted me to pray with her on the way to the hospital, and then began to sing Amazing Grace, I was mumbling along with her trying to get things done on the way distracted from the singing, and she took my hand, looked straight at me, and said "Dear, please don't sing, the lord doesn't need a voice that joyous". I guess I was so distracted with getting 02 and vitals and stuff that I didn't realize I was singing. *LMAO*
I obviously have a great time being an EMT.
Another thing I love is reality TV. My favorite show is Big Brother in the summer season, and Survivor in the winter. I have NEVER missed ANY of the episodes - ever. Since both started. The same with the Amazing Race. I have missed a few episodes only because I also enjoy West Wing, which happens to be on at the same time. Sometimes I forget to ask my husband to start the tape. I want to be a contestant on Big Brother. I think I would be perfect for it because of my sense of humor and my feistiness. I'm one of those people that get along with everyone when I'm having a good day, but if someone does something dumb, I get a little...testy. That would make great TV. An angel one second, and complete witch within seconds. Good thing I can control that at work *L*. Plus I'm like Cliff Clavon from Cheers. I know all these weird facts in my head, and I'm sure it makes people cringe when I start to talk about some of the things I know.
Knowing a lot probably comes from all the jobs I've had since I started to work. When someone says, Jack-Of-All-Trades-Master-Of-None, they are describing me perfectly. Though, being an EMT has been the best, and I plan to doing this for a long time. Let's see if I can put them in order...I worked at Arbys, then Hardee's as a fast food cashier, then a service desk worker at TG&Y department store, then I worked in the toy department at another department store, then the shore department. After that, I was an Avon "lady" (I was only 17), then a temp secretary. In 1983 I went into the Navy and became a radioman (communications), while in there, I part timed as a skating rink DJ, a security guard, a hotel maid, a bouncer (even though I was only 4 foot 11, and 90 pounds), a waitress, a bartender and a singer. After the Navy, I was a data processor, worked at Radio Shack, did more temp secretary work at a bank, an employment service, a buyer's area in a upper department store, and a insurance company. Then I got married. After that, I was back at a temp service working at a few other companies as a secretary. After that, I was a daycare worker, then a ticker seller at a tourist spot, a dental manager, and a telemarketer for a photographical place. I learned how to be an optometric tech and specialized in contact lenses. I moved on to working at a movie theater in all the positions there. Then I worked at a medical university as a time sheet auditor, and again in a dental clinic. I went back to a temp service, and finally went to Emergency Medical Training classes, and now I'm an EMT. Tell me I haven't had life experiences. I've also lived in Ohio, California, Alabama, Florida, Purto Rico, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Virginia, Hawaii and a few other places in the world. I love life experiences. Can you tell?
Well, have you learned enough about me? No? Here's some pictures of the family...
